Cookie policy

What gets stored on your device when you use {{name}}, why, for how long, and how to change your mind.

1. Cookies and local storage

Most of what {{name}} stores is not a cookie at all. Cookies are sent back to a server with every request; local storage stays in your browser and is never transmitted. We use local storage for everything essential, which is why the site works with cookies switched off entirely.

The law treats both the same way — you are entitled to know what is stored and to refuse anything that is not strictly necessary — so both are listed here.

2. Strictly necessary — always on

These are set by {{domain}} in your browser’s local storage. They contain no personal data, are readable only by this site, and cannot be switched off without breaking the tool.

reinsurly-v1
Your progress. Which terms you marked as learned and how you answered each quiz question. Persists until you clear it.
reinsurly-theme
Appearance. Light or dark, if you have chosen one rather than following your system setting. Persists until you clear it.
reinsurly-consent
Your cookie choice. Whether you accepted analytics, and when. Stops the banner appearing on every page. Persists until you clear it or change your choice.

3. Analytics — only if you agree

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics 4 is loaded and sets cookies on your device. Nothing is loaded and no analytics cookie is set unless you have actively consented.

_ga
Distinguishes one browser from another so repeat visits are not double counted. Typically expires after 2 years.
_ga_<container>
Maintains the analytics session state. Typically expires after 2 years.
_gid
Used by older Google Analytics configurations to distinguish users. Typically expires after 24 hours.

We use analytics only to see how many people visit and which terms get studied. IP anonymisation is switched on, and we do not use the data for advertising or share it with advertisers.

4. Third-party requests

Loading a page also requests typefaces from Google Fonts. That request does not set a cookie, but it does reveal your IP address and browser to Google, as any request to any server does. There are no other third-party requests on this site: no embedded video, no social widgets, no ad code, no tag managers beyond the analytics described above.

5. Changing your mind

Your current choice

Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page — in the Legal column of the footer — to reopen the banner and change your analytics preference at any time. Withdrawing consent takes effect immediately: analytics stops, and we clear the analytics cookies we are able to reach.

You can also block or delete anything from this site in your browser’s settings — usually under Privacy, “Cookies and site data”. Deleting site data for {{domain}} also erases your learning progress, since that is stored in the same place.

6. More detail

How this fits into the wider picture of what we do and do not collect is set out in the privacy policy. Anything unclear, write to {{email}}.
